Club Urunga History
Founding and Early Years
A group of local Urunga Men met on the 14th of November 1950 with the intention of forming the Urunga Bowling Club. Early the following year the land was purchased and the 1st bowling green was established.
The construction of the original Clubhouse commenced the following year and was opened in the first week of January 1954 with the Women’s Bowling Club establishing on the 3rd of November 1954. Since then, extensions and improvements were carried out in 1967, 1974, 1976 and 1997.
The second bowling green was completed in 1972. On the night of 31 March 2009, Urunga and surrounding areas experienced a 1-in-100-years rain event where the Club lost almost everything. Due to the significant damage a decision was made that the Club would have to be rebuilt.
The beautiful Club you see today had it’s grand opening on the 5th of May 2012 and has been enjoyed by members and guests ever since.
